Little River It's a popular place to stop for food and drink in between the two destinations of Christchurch and Akaroa, although we reckon it's a destination in itself.

The Little River Rail Trail is a cycling and walking track which mostly follows the course of the old Little River Branch railway that ran between Hornby Junction and Little River. Enjoy a changing natural landscape as the trail takes you through rural areas and settlements, past lakes, rivers and wetlands.

Every year in January the Little River A & P Show takes place in the beautiful Awa-Iti Domain in the middle of town. People come from all over for a slice of this classic rural Kiwi tradition. Activities include an equestrian competition and numerous displays of sheep, cows, dog trials, produce, flowers and food.
Over the past 34+ years, Vince and Colleen Burke and their children have collected many kinds of gemstones off Birdlings Flat Beach. The collection now also includes fossils from the South Island.
Walk towards the spit from the car park and feast your eyes on a beautiful display of coloured wild flowers growing amongst the stones. The best time to view is from October and over summer.
